Provincial Policy

Provincial policies need to be good for the Province and the Northwest. The policies that work in other areas do not always work here.  Municipal Government is the backstop between destructive policies and the people.

A Municipal Councilor for Ward 9/10 must be deeply knowledgeable in municipal policies, land use bylaws, and planning documents to effectively guide development and growth in our area and throughout Mackenzie County. Beyond local governance, one must stay informed about provincial and federal legislation that impacts our residents, businesses, and industries, such as regulations affecting agriculture, forestry, or energy sectors. Municipalities are the level of government closest to the people, serving as the primary voice and advocate for communities. Councilors act as protectors, ensuring the interests of residents are represented and defended against higher-level policies that may undermine local priorities.

With 20 years of experience on Mackenzie County Council, I have navigated complex municipal frameworks, from subdivision appeals to economic development strategies, while advocating for fair provincial and federal policies. My leadership in initiatives like the Northwest Species at Risk Committee (NWSAR) and Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) demonstrates my ability to engage with all levels of government to safeguard our region’s economic and social vitality. As your Councilor, I commit to being a vigilant, informed advocate, ensuring Ward 9/10’s unique needs are heard and addressed in every decision-making arena.
